MINUTES OF THE COMMITEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING

OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

OF THE ADDISON PARK DISTRICT

HELD AT COMMUNITY REC CENTER

120 EAST OAK STREET, ADDISON, ILLINOIS

 

JANUARY 21, 2008

 

President Jessen called the meeting to order at 5:33 P.M.

 

PRESENT:                     Commissioners Jessen, Ortale, Capizzano, Reed and Welkomer

 

ABSENT:                      None

 

STAFF PRESENT:          Executive Director Mark McKinnon, Superintendent of Recreation, Michael Walaszek; Superintendent of  Finance, Janis Jordan; Superintendent of Parks and Planning, Noel Rolle; Fitness Center Operations Manager, Greg Vitale; Golf Facility Manager, Charles Sims; Community Leisure Services Manager, Geri Estvanik; Marketing & Communication Supervisor, Traci Wicks; Executive Administrative Assistant, Lisa Bruni; Recreation Supervisors Kelly Sisco and Kim Erickson; Office Manager, Diane Lewandowski; Golf Facilities Superintendent, Ben Grimme and Maintenance Supervisor, Jay Mueller

OTHERS PRESENT:      Facilitator Jill Bartholomew

President Jessen welcomed everyone to the meeting.  He thanked staff for attending and congratulated Charles Sims on Links and Tees receiving the Top 100 Golf Practice Facility.

 

Director McKinnon reviewed the 2007/2008 Goals and reported on the status of each one.  He explained that tonight’s meeting was to develop the goals for the next year and he encouraged staff to think out of the box.  He stated that the goals suggested tonight would be evaluated by staff and final goals would be brought to the Board for final evaluation.  Director McKinnon then introduced Jill Bartholomew.

 

2008/2009 District Goal Development

Facilitator Bartholomew talked about the procedures that she would use with staff to develop the goals for the next year.  She then had the commissioners and staff participate in a team building activity.  Jill then reviewed the six main goals and gave all in attendance time to suggest additional goals for each of them.  The six main goals were:

 

1.       Develop and maintain recreational facilities and park areas to meet the present and future demands of the Addison Park District.

2.       Provide excellent recreation programs/services and customer support that will enhance the quality of life for all citizens of the Addison Park District.

3.       Provide staff with a working environment that fosters personal and professional growth.

4.       Effectively administer the revenues and expenditures of the Addison Park District to maximize programs, facilities, and parks.

5.       Develop and implement district-wide marketing initiatives that will enhance participation and revenue.

6.       Effectively administer environmental policies/programs to expand open space and conserve natural resource areas for present and future populations of the Addison Park District.

 

After the commissioners and staff developed goals for each of the main goals, they voted on which goals they felt were most important for the District to achieve.  Jill explained that the goals would be complied and that staff would have the opportunity to evaluate them and present the top goals to the Board for final evaluation.  She then thanked staff for the great ideas and for participating in the goal setting process.

 

Adjournment

Commissioner Capizzano moved for adjournment at 9:32 p.m.  The motion was seconded by Commissioner Welkomer and carried.
